I like journals. Notebooks. Planners. Memo books. I have lots. I’m a Field Notes Brand addict. I have three Leuchturms (one I’ve actually managed to put to use as a Bullet Journal.)
But a lot of them are blank. Do you have the same problem? I’m willing to bet money on the answer to that being “yes.” I get it. You get a really nice planner, or beautifully bound journal with perfectly textured paper, and think “this is the one that will help me get my shit together.” And then you never do. Because you can’t just put your normal crappy bullshit in such a nice book, right? Nah, this one, this needs to be set aside for the good shit.
But you never get around to putting any good shit in it, do you? Because the good shit is always behind like, a dozen journals full of absolute crap. Random bullshit. Stupid ideas (really? the Vacuuformium? what was I thinking with that one?). Dumb premises (no one wants to listen to a podcast about dead 90s card games. Or maybe you do; I dunno). Inane ramblings borne of midnight burritos (OK maybe a Simpsons trivia game would be fun, BUT ONLY IF IT STICKS TO THE GOLDEN AGE).
Anyway. I thought maybe if there was an alternative to the really nice journals, maybe we could get past that block. If the journal was already kinda fucked up, then we could only improve it by putting our thoughts into it, right? A twenty point list of reasons why Frankie Adams should have just quietly taken over the Cara Dune role in Mandalorian would only make a slightly fucked up notebook better, in my opinion.
So. I’ve undertaken a project. I’ve used Amazon points to order some equipment and supplies, and I’m going to make some small, cool, kinda fucked up little notebooks. I’ll track the journey here, and maybe make some videos and post them, too. Maybe I’ll learn some new things, maybe you will. Either way it will beat doomscrolling on that other app.
But hopefully it will be cool and I will make some useful things for people to get their dumb ideas out so they can get to the good ones to put in the nice journals.
